NYR: Christmas - The Spirit Remains...& a Developmental New Year To ALL
...And a really Great New Year!
NEW YEAR RESOLUTION - The Proper Way to Do It
As I said to Sim and V, humans are not at present capable of making an ambiguous resolution and actually fulfilling them unless it is quite blatant - like not swearing/smoking/drinking/etc as much.
To bring resolution-making up one level, I suggested that resolutions be made in 5 areas – Aesthetic, Humanitarian, Sexual, Intellectual, Fun – in view and appreciation of the fact that we have different sides to our persona. For instance, in ‘Aesthetic’, the inclusion of, say, different types of music, or art, or philosophical, etc, be it in indulgence or pursuance. In the ‘Humanitarian’, we could resolve to be more thoughtful in terms of asking after another’s life, anticipating another’s needs, seeking out social causes for evils, etc. In ‘Sexual’, one can break out of routines and suggest or indulge in something different or that which we currently find distasteful, and in the Intellectual, to keep up with world news, news of regions we have not interested ourselves in, ideas, etc, outside of our sphere of interest. In 'Fun', we could pick up, say, roller-blading, playing the PSP, remote controlled helicopters, etc. These five areas cover various aspects of our personality and will dynamically interact to make each even more. In other words, pursuing and becoming adept in each will feed our development in each. What is learnt in one will impact on how far we go in the other.
The underlying guiding principle in all of these, I said, ought to be ‘daring’, 'different', ‘new’ and ‘innovative’ – in other words, to reiterate, ‘outside of our sphere of interest’ or that which we are comfortable with. And coupled with these, one must come up with at least one specific instance of how one was going to actually effect it in the 5 different areas. It’s no good saying that we are going to be more ‘daring’ in sex or more ‘concerned’ in social relationships unless we come up with specific examples and pursue them immediately. Specificity and immediacy are the keys to realising these resolutions lest we take resolution-making as ‘effort enough’ – which most tend to do. Via this method, we develop past our comfort zones and will become more than we can presently imagine.
In a nutshell –
1. 5 Generic arenas – Aesthetic, Humanitarian,
Sexual, Intellectual, Fun
2. A specific resolution for each
3. To have ‘daring’, 'different', ‘new’, ‘innovative’ as the general guideline to produce (2).
A Happy and Developmental New Year (according to the Gregorian calendar) All!
Wishing you all - and a special wish to my dear neighbours - a Vibrant Start and Pursuit of all that you've yet to be in the Coming Year.
